~No Turning Back~
While roaming in the mall one day, Chris thought about how we all judge each other in so many ways and then thought about what others thought of him as they passed by. The line "Even if you walk 1000 miles in my shoes/You'd never know what it's like to be me" came running into his mind. He later went off to a local coffee shop, sat down, opened his notebook and the rest of the words spilled out of his pen. Though it has never been performed outside of Rainbird studios (aka our rehearsal basement), it has made an impressions on those who have heard it.
This was one of the most difficult songs to record. Since we have only performed it a few times, we were all still working out the overall structure. We ran through it a few times, made a few changes, thought we had a good version flowing and recorded it. The toughest part was getting the vocals right. We saved this song for last because we were unsure about the final vocal delivery. Chris belted out take after take while Scott ran the control room. The first take was not what either had in mind and each take afterward became progressively worse. Finally, after a short break to rest Chris' voice, Scott had a few words with Chris. They agreed to one more take and if it didn't work out, the option was on the table to drop the song entirely. As luck would have it, what is presented here is what we were looking for and was worth everything we all put into it.
